four; interwoven is a 35-minute concept quartet piece that explores what it means to choose love and togetherness, especially when it's hard. Four musician-storytellers—a folk band / theatre troupe / choral quartet—blend composition with devising and improvisation to explore the tension between being individual (unique, unbearably light, alone) and being together (spiritually connected, conforming, relying). By interweaving their unique voices and instruments, singing without words, they create a space for reflecting on our roles in groups, our relationships with loved ones, and our tension with nation and society through an intuitive, embodied sound.
Concept & Composition led by Erika Ji | Directed by Chaesong Kim
Developed, Arranged, and Performed by Cooper Baldwin, Matthew Billman, Lian Kelmann, and Erika Ji
We hope that through music and movement, we create an experience beyond words in which our audience can reflect on the relationships and communities that surround them. We hope this piece inspires our audience to choose love.
